Welcome readers!
I'm Vickie, writer, road-trip enthusiast and former van-lifer. I'm living in the city now, but my heart will always be on the road!
Welcome to Koala Bay
Brand-new cosy mystery out soon!
50-something couple, Anita and Kevin, are headed for Koala Bay to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Kevin has been down in the dumps recently, and Anita has only just worked out why, causing a last minute change of plans. But they’re making the most of it, after all, Koala Bay is where they spent their honeymoon, all those years ago.
What could be nicer? A cute little seaside town with lots of historic cottages, delicious bakery cafes, and wide sandy beaches…a memorable anniversary weekend is surely on the cards?
Memorable it’s going to be, but probably not in the sense Anita and Kevin were hoping for!
Road Trip Journal
Thinking of hitting the road after years of dreaming about it? I met so many solo women travellers when I was full-time on the road; they all had different reasons for travelling alone and all were brave, remarkable, friendly and often funny women!
You may be feeling a little anxious, wondering how you'll cope on your own, where you'll go and what you'll do, and yes, maybe even concerned about what others might think...
If so, this journal is for you!
Grief in the Van:
A Memoir
I lived on the road full-time for three years after my parents died, six months apart, back in 2017, following my father’s long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. It was a horrible time for us all, and when we sold their house, I bought a motorhome and left the city.
I was exhausted, full of grief, and unsure of my next stage in life. I recalled all the wonderful childhood holidays in our caravan. I decided I needed time away. I found myself a furry companion, Dougal, the dog-like cat, at the RSPCA, packed the Van, wrangled Dougal into his carrier and set off. You can read all about that first year in the Van in my memoir, Grief in the Van: An Adult Orphan, A Cat, and A Tiny Home-on-Wheels.
