Welcome to Koala Bay!
50-something couple, Anita and Kevin, are headed for Koala Bay to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Kevin has been down in the dumps recently, and Anita has only just worked out why, causing a last minute change of plans. But they’re making the most of it, after all, Koala Bay is where they spent their honeymoon, all those years ago.
What could be nicer? A cute little seaside town with lots of historic cottages, delicious bakery cafes, and wide sandy beaches and not forgetting adorable koalas in every tree…a memorable anniversary weekend is surely on the cards?
Memorable it’s going to be, but probably not in the sense Anita and Kevin were hoping for!
Parked up in the Koala Bay Caravan Park, they are sorry to see the place is such a state of disrepair. Pat, their long-time friend, lost her husband several years back and the caravan park is becoming too much for her, even with Dan’s help.
Dan is the park’s caretaker and handyman and very protective of Pat, who gave him a chance when life was looking bleak. He’d do anything for her! (even murder?)
There are several long-term residents, or ‘permanents’ in the caravan park; octogenarian brothers Clarry and Roy, George, retired teacher and part-time poet, Colin, fiery ex-school bus driver who lives in an old bus and Barbara, the ‘big-sister’ who makes sure relations remain civil.
There are younger people too, who call Koala Bay Caravan Park home: Kyle, sous-chef at the nearby Cliffs Hotel and Jenna, single mum with two kids, escaping her own sad history and maybe, just maybe, finding future happiness with Kyle?
Anita and Kevin arrive and settle in, ready to enjoy a relaxing long weekend in this sleepy little seaside town. It’s early spring, the weather is cool, but pleasant enough walking on the beach, enjoying a Devonshire tea at the little café on the clifftops, exploring the gorgeous historic buildings. Kevin takes a boat out fishing and Anita loves to browse the bookshops and op shops.
It’s all a bit too good to be true, isn’t it!
And it was! The idyllic weekend away is soon to be interrupted by…murder!
The body of an unpopular and disagreeable businessman from the city is found early one morning on the steps leading down to the beach.
There are too many suspects for Anita to keep up with…yes, terrible nosy-parker that she is, Anita finds herself embroiled in the investigation but at what cost?
